Monthly Wrap-Up – August 2021

Happy September! I cannot believe that autumn is just around the corner. This year has disappeared so quickly (compared to last year), that I have no idea where time has gone. It is one big blur. Anyways, I had so much happen last month that I'd love to share. Let's dive right in with my August Monthly Wrap-Up!

Bookish News

Before I get into my monthly wrap-up, I thought it would be fun to share that I joined NetGalley! As surprising as it may seem, I ended up joining because I ended up winning a eARC for Lakesedge, which I could only access from NetGalley. Now, technically, I'm not going to be applying for a ton of review copies, but it's so cool to see all of the future books that are going to be released!

Books I Finished
Caraval Book Cover Gods & Monsters Book Cover
  1. Caraval by Stephanie Garber (4.5 Stars ⭐)
  2. Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin (5 Stars ⭐)
I was able to finish 2 really good books last month! The first book I finished was Caraval, which I originally started back in May. With school keeping me busy until the end of June, I sadly didn't get the chance to finish until earl August, but with life being hectic, I'm only glad that I was able to finish more than 1, which is good enough for me.  The second book I finished was the conclusion to Gods & Monsters! I was amazed by how it ended, this book was everything that I would hope for in an ending to an amazing series. Without giving too much away, you'll just have to wait to read my review.

Giveaways I Won

Last month, I was surprisingly lucky to win not one, but three different giveaways three different days in a row! I could not believe my luck! Normally, I never win giveaways, if I do its very infrequent and rare. Here's what I ended up winning last month.

First, I won a giveaway for some fan-made Nancy Drew themed merchandise! Pictured above is Rika's Treasure in the Royal Tower Magnets! When I first saw these, I absolutely loved them and their design, I had to add them to my collection. They arrived near the second to last week of the month and they are so cute! I currently have them hanging on my fridge and they are a perfect addition to my ND collection. If you want to go check out her shop, I've left a link to her Etsy (rikakubdesigns) so if you want to collect your own, I definitely recommend checking out her shop!

The second giveaway I won was an ARC (Advance Readers Copy) of Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer! Since I'm a part of Brigid's Street Team (The Cursebreakers), they've had a few opportunities available for people to win an ARC paperback. I literally thought, "Why not?" and decided to enter, assuming that I wouldn't win but there was no harm in trying. I had forgotten that I entered into a giveaway until I received an email from the Team Captain telling me that I had won on August 10th! It arrived and I cannot wait to dive in!

The third giveaway I won was for a eARC (Electronic Advance Readers Copy) of Lakesedge by Lyndall Clipstone that FierceReads was hosting over on their Instagram. There was a slightly higher chance with up to 50 people winning, but I didn't think I would win, but again I was proved wrong. This book is next on my TBR so I can't wait to see what happens!

TV Shows I've Watched

  1. Big Brother (Season 23 & Live Feeds)
  2. Because This Is My First Life (K-Drama)
  3. The Witcher
  4. Loki
I didn't get the chance to watch too much TV this month, besides Big Brother, which is what normally happens during the summer.  The second show that I finished watching was the k-drama Because This Is My First Life, which had a very cute ending! Then earlier in the month, I watched Episode 3 of The Witcher, which was probably the weirdest one that I've seen and I have several moments when I questioned why...? Let's just say Episode 3 was my least favorite of the 1st season so far...  The other show I got to watch was Loki, which was really, really good! I absolutely loved it and I can't wait for Season 2 after that cliffhanger. I definetly recommend it if you haven't watched it yet.

Games I Played

  1. Nancy Drew: The Phantom of Venice (Nancy Drew Battle Challenge w/ Friends)
  2. Dead by Daylight
  3. Assassin's Creed Valhalla
  4. The Testament of Sherlock Holmes (w/ Jordan)
  5. Stardew Valley
  6. Garden Paws
  7. Assassin's Creed IV Black Flags
  8. Assassin's Creed Unity
  9. Nancy Drew: The Secret of Shadow Ranch (Streamed on Twitch @DJTwinGamers)
  10. Assassin's Creed Odyssey
  11. The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection
  12. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments
  13. The Sims 4
  14. Assassin's Creed Origins (w/ Raenna)
  15. Phasmophobia (w/Friends)
With the number of games that I was able to play last month, I'm extremely surprised with how many I played, whether it was for several hours to just playing around for a little bit. I'm not going to go into too much detail about everything I played because there are so many, but I was glad that I got to spend some time actually enjoying everything that I was able to play. There is nothing like being able to enjoy a good game.

  1. Can't Wait Wednesday #21 ~ Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer
I wasn't able to get the blogging start that I had wanted this month, especially since I did get busy and when I did have time, I spent it reading or gaming. With September around the corner, I'm hoping to jump start my blogging again. I'll try to get Jordan to motivate me to blog when she's blogging, which is September’s  goal. I want to get through my backlogged blog posts and stop trying to play catch up! In addition, I want to read a ton of books, I have several already lined up and I think I’m going to to try reading multiple books at a time, so we’ll see how that all goes!

Thank you all so much for reading! Did you do anything in August? Let's chat! Until next time
