Can't Wait Wednesday #21 - Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer

Happy Wednesday all! I'm finally back with another Can't Wait Wednesday! It's been a while since I've been able to sit down to write, so I decided to start off with a book that I'm looking forward to being released later this year in Fall 2021. That being said, I'm super excited for a new fantasy series called Defy the Night by Brigid Kemmerer. If you're not familiar with Can’t Wait Wednesday, this is a bookish meme hosted by Tressa over at Wishful Endings that spotlights upcoming release books that we're excited for. Let's jump right in!

About the Book:

Title: Defy the Night

Author: Brigid Kemmerer

Release Date: September 14, 20212

Series: Defy the Night #1

Genre: Fantasy

Pages: 496

Summary:

The kingdom of Kandala is on the brink of disaster. Rifts between sectors have only worsened since a sickness began ravaging the land, and within the Royal Palace, the king holds a tenuous peace with a ruthless hand.

King Harristan was thrust into power after his parents' shocking assassination, leaving the younger Prince Corrick to take on the brutal role of the King's Justice. The brothers have learned to react mercilessly to any sign of rebellion--it's the only way to maintain order when the sickness can strike anywhere, and the only known cure, an elixir made from delicate Moonflower petals, is severely limited.

Out in the Wilds, apothecary apprentice Tessa Cade is tired of seeing her neighbors die, their suffering ignored by the unyielding royals. Every night, she and her best friend Wes risk their lives to steal Moonflower petals and distribute the elixir to those who need it most--but it's still not enough.

As rumors spread that the cure no longer works and sparks of rebellion begin to flare, a particularly cruel act from the King's Justice makes Tessa desperate enough to try the impossible: sneaking into the palace. But what she finds upon her arrival makes her wonder if it's even possible to fix Kandala without destroying it first.

My Thoughts on Defy the Night:
Earlier this year, I finished reading Brigid's Cursebreaker series and I absolutely loved it! Then in May, I joined Brigid's Cursebreaker Street Team and was lucky enough to read a sneak peek of the first chapter in Defy the Night! I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to read this book and I was so excited. The description sounded super interesting, in addition, as soon as I saw the cover for this book, I knew that I needed to make sure this book was on my TBR asap. I immediately pre-ordered the Barnes and Noble Exclusive Edition and I've already signed up for the pre-order incentive, which a very cute and adorable enamel pin (pictured below). This pin is specifically designed based on the 1st book so make sure you pre-order and sign up for yours if you want to get one of your own. I cannot wait to read this book!
