Summary:
It’s always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate’s going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won’t live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he’ll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he’s crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems amazingly possible. If she succeeds, she’ll become Henry’s future bride, and a goddess. But what Kate doesn’t know is that no one has ever passed THE GODDESS TEST.

My Thoughts:
When I first picked up The Goddess Test, I was immediately drawn into the story. I love books that have little bits and pieces of mythology in them and how an author can take mythology and put their own spin on it. In the beginning, we learn about Kate and the situation with her mother.  This was probably the part that made me want to cry while reading was when her mother wanted to talk to Kate about what she should do with her life after she had passed.  Not only are these the types of scenes I would easily cry at, it kind of hit close to home, even though the situation was different in a few ways.

I really liked Kate. Throughout the story, you could tell how she was a very kind, trusting and forgiving girl who would do anything to care for protect the people that she had in her life.  Henry was an interesting character as well.  He had this persona about him that was dark and mysterious, but when you get to know his character, he's very charming and swoon-worthy.  With the past girls failing the seven tests, you could knew he kept Kate at a distance because he didn't want to grow too attached if something were to happen to her.  I really like the slow burn romance between Kate and Henry.  You could tell that the characters had chemistry and I enjoyed how everything turned out between them.

The story was quick pace, which I really liked.  It wasn't too fast and I was able to focus on certain scenes that were really important to the story, then we were able to move on to the next scene without it dragging on for too long.  The world building was also very well written.  There was just enough detail that I was able to easily envision everything.  The setting was probably the most interesting because of how it plays with reality based on where its located. Just like the title of the story indicates, there are several tests that Kate has to go through. The idea of the seven tests were very interesting and to not know what they really were until the very end was very intriguing. While some of them were easy to guess one I really thought about it, one of the tests completely threw me off guard.  Overall, I really enjoyed the start of this series and its definitely one that I'll go back to read during my spare time.
