An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson - Book Review

An Enchantment of Ravens Book Cover
How’s it going everyone. Today, I’ll be reviewing An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson.  I got this book a few months back and I was really excited to get into it.  But, with my main focus being school, this book got push back multiple times, until I was finally able to get around to reading it recently.

About the Book:
Title: An Enchantment of Ravens
Author: Margaret Rogerson
Release Date: September 26, 2017
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 320

My Rating: 2/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Isobel is an artistic prodigy with a dangerous set of clients: the sinister fair folk, immortal creatures who cannot bake bread or put a pen to paper without crumbling to dust. They crave human Craft with a terrible thirst, and Isobel’s paintings are highly prized. But when she receives her first royal patron—Rook, the autumn prince—she makes a terrible mistake. She paints mortal sorrow in his eyes—a weakness that could cost him his life.

Furious, Rook spirits her away to his kingdom to stand trial for her crime. But something is seriously wrong in his world, and they are attacked from every side. With Isobel and Rook depending on each other for survival, their alliance blossoms into trust, then love—and that love violates the fair folks’ ruthless laws. Now both of their lives are forfeit, unless Isobel can use her skill as an artist to fight the fairy courts. Because secretly, her Craft represents a threat the fair folk have never faced in all the millennia of their unchanging lives: for the first time, her portraits have the power to make them feel.

My Thoughts:
I feel like the odd one out when I say this...  Sadly, it was very hard for me to get into this book.  When I first started the story, I was really interested.  However, as the story progressed, I lost interest very quickly.  The story just seemed to lack something, which is why the story flopped for me.  The plot of the story seem very confusing since there was no real direction in the story.  First, Isobel is in trouble for making a terrible mistake on Rook (The Autumn Prince's) painting, he kidnaps her so she can pay for her crimes, only for them to turn around after an incident happened.  The story seemed like it didn't have an actual concrete direction, which is what mainly made me lose interest.  In the story, you read from the perspective of Isobel.  I like the characters in the story, they were fun and entertaining to see in the story.  However, I didn't care for the romance between Isobel and Rook.  There wasn't any real chemistry between the two of them, so when they decided that they had feelings for each other, I couldn't see it.  I did like the idea of the fair folk and how they were completely different from mortals, since they had magic while mortals had their Craft.  This gave the story a unique element, which allowed you to see the difference between the fair folk who were immortal to humans.  Overall, this book wasn't really for me.  Even thought I didn't care for this story, I am willing to give Margaret's other book just recently released a try later in the future.
