Last To Know by Micalea Smeltzer - Book Review

Last To Know Book Cover
How’s it going everyone!  Today, I’ll be reviewing Last to Know by Micalea Smeltzer.  I found this book on iBooks Top Free Book chart back in May.  Because I was still in and out of my romance reading phase, I was searching everywhere for a sweet romance/contemporary story that I could read when I came across this book.  The idea of this story really interested me and I knew it was just the book I needed to help getting out of this little slump that I had been in.

About the Book:
Title: Last To Know
Author: Micalea Smeltzer
Release Date: February 7, 2015
Series: A Willow Creek Novel #1
Genre: Romance
Pages: 353

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
He was just a boy.
And I was just a girl.
But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?

Up and coming band Willow Creek is back in their hometown for the summer. For the drummer, Maddox Wade, this summer was meant for writing music and playing gigs.

Falling in love was not part of the plan.

One look at Emma Burke and those plans cease to matter.

Emma is quiet and guarded. She’s still hurt from her father walking out two years ago. She doesn’t want to trust Maddox, but with his dark hair, smoldering good looks, and infectious smile he’s impossible to resist.

Together Maddox and Emma embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures and first love.
Everything is perfect…or so Emma thinks.

There are things she doesn’t know, and when she finds out the truth it might shatter everything she’s built with Maddox.

No one said love was easy, and for Maddox and Emma it just might be impossible.

My Thoughts:
I loved this story so much!  Going into this book, it was everything I hoped the story would be and more.  Emma is very different from girls her own age and that was something I could relate to easily.  For example, instead of wanting to go out to parties she would prefer to stay in a read.  After going to the fair and kind of getting abandoned by her friend, Emma meets Maddox.  Maddox was calm, laid-back, sweet, handsome, and a very fun character.  He knew ways to bring Emma out of her shell that she had built for herself.  Even though she would get mad at him from time to time, she would always have fun with their list of summer adventures that they would go on.  With each adventure they did, trying new things that they had never done before, their relationship throughout the story grew and blossomed.  It was very magical!

I noticed the author throughout the story gave the readers hints about who Maddox was, like the drumsticks he would carry in his back pocket, how he would wear sunglasses and beanies whenever Emma and him were out in public, and how he would act kind of uneasy in public, always keeping a watchful eye out.  When the truth finally did come out about Maddox, I was surprised that her best friend was the one to finally break the secret to her.  I figured Emma would discover who Maddox was on her own, but her friend found out first and told her.  Even though Emma was kind of heartbroken about discovering the truth from her best friend, I was still rooting for Maddox and Emma to get back together before it was to late.  Emma and Maddox's relationship was very natural and slow-paced, building up into a full relationship that any girl would love.  If you love teen romance stories that involve secrets, summer adventures, then I definitely suggest reading Last to Know.
