Chameleon by Kelly Oram - Book Review

Chameleon Book Cover
How’s it going everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing Chameleon by Kelly Oram.  I found this book because a friend, who knows the author, suggested this book to me.  He absolutely loved the book and because I told him I wanted to be an author and loved reading YA, he thought I would love this book.  In addition, I saw this book several times on iBooks and I got around to reading it during the end of summer in 2016, which almost feels like forever ago.

About the Book:
Title: Chameleon
Author: Kelly Oram

Series: Supernaturals #1
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 380

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
For small-town rebel Dani Webber magic and monsters are no more real than the Easter Bunny… until the day she accidentally stops time. Dani quickly discovers that not only do supernaturals exist, but she herself is one of them. This is great news for her life-long best friend Russ, who can finally come clean about his own supernatural status and his undying love for her. Before the two can start to enjoy the long overdue relationship, Dani is taken by a powerful council of supernaturals who believe she is the Chosen One destined to save them from extinction.

As if being kidnapped and expected to save the world isn’t bad enough, an ancient prophecy warns of the Chosen One’s dark nature: “Only the truest love will keep her an agent for good.” The council believes they know who this “true love” is and, unfortunately, that person isn’t Russ. The mysterious, powerful and devastatingly handsome Seer is the last person Dani wants in her life, but when she starts having visions of a horrific future, she has no one else to turn to for help.

Soon Dani finds herself torn between two very different boys with two very different opinions of whom she can trust. With the visions getting worse and time running out, Dani is forced to put aside her feelings and work with both the Seer and Russ before an ancient evil is unleashed upon the earth.

My Thoughts:
I really loved this book.  Dani is a very spirited character.  When they mentioned the seer, Gabriel or Gabe for short, I thought he was going to be an arrogant character when you first met him.  Mainly his name made me think that he was going to be that kind of character and that I wasn’t going to like him.  Oh, I was wrong.  Gabriel was the sweetest, most thoughtful guy who deeply cared for Dani.  Even though they didn’t know each other, not to mention they were complete strangers.

With Russ and Gabe’s rivalry, at first I was rooting for Russ because I didn’t trust Gabe in the story.  As time went on, the more I was rooting for Gabe because I didn’t trust Russ anymore.  Even though Russ had liked Dani for a long time, something about his sudden, I have to get you away from the corrupt council made me question everything.  Since Russ’s father, Alex, was previously on the council, it made me question everything like: why did Alex and Russ want to escape with Dani?  Why did Alex not mention being on the council and why he left?  Why didn’t Alex trust the council?  How come Russ didn’t question his father actions and demand an explanation when doubt was starting to arise?

Those are just a few things that I wondered.  Anyways, it was pretty funny when I was reading the end of the story, I didn’t expect the turn out of what was going to happen.  Because Dani had the ability to see the future after she would touch Gabe since he is a Seer, I thought that once she saw a vision that it was going to be set in stone, but when one decision that she makes changes everything I was super curious about what was going to happen next.  This story really kept me guessing, as the twists and turns were able to keep me enthralled and I couldn't stop reading until the last page.  I definitely suggest reading this book.
