The Watchers by Lynnie Purcell - Book Review

The Watchers Book Cover
How’s it going everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing The Watchers by Lynnie Purcell.  I don’t remember how I found this this book specifically, but it caught my interest one day. The description of this story had talked about fallen angels and a war that their kind was thrown into and that automatically drew me in.  I was extremely curious about these fallen angels and why these dark creatures would want the children of fallen angels gone.

Summary:
16-year-old Clare Michaels has always known the truth - that she is the daughter of a fallen angel. That truth has made her life hell. She has spent her entire life running from the children of the fallen. A secret, centuries-old war has divided her kind, and there are only two options if the others find her - join the fight or die. Clare's only ally in her running is her mother, Ellen. They have always hidden in large cities away where they could blend and disappear. So when Ellen decides to move Clare to the tiny town of King's Cross - Ellen's hometown - Clare is skeptical. But King's Cross ends up being more dangerous than even she could imagine.

A dark creature is stalking the locals, Clare keeps hearing the thoughts of someone determined to kill her, and a boy in her class named Daniel seems absolutely determined to become her friend. Clare is not certain which of the three is worse.

But it is through Daniel's help that Clare is able to understand her angelic heritage, save lives, and come to grips with her destiny as one of the Watchers.

My Thoughts:
Reading this book, I was kept on the edge of my seat.  I didn’t know what was worse, Clare hearing the thoughts of someone wanting her dead or a dark creature stalking the King’s Cross locals.  I could tell that Clare was an outsider because of the way she was constantly moving around from city to city.  The book gave you, as the reader, the feeling of wanting to hold your breath because there were times when you didn’t know what was going to happen, like the voice that Clare continued to hear.  Another was when Clare goes into the woods.  The characters all had their own individualized personality and I like that because Daniel and Clare were polar opposites.  Daniel was the popular guy while Clare was the loner new girl that was different.  The end of the book wrapped up very nicely, even though there are three more books in this series.  I almost thought that this book wasn’t in a series since there was nothing indicating that there would be another book in the series, however I still loved this book.  This was a very good read and I definitely suggest that you go and check it out.
