How’s it going everyone. Today, I’ll be reviewing Runes by Ednah Walters.  I found this book a while ago, don’t remember when, but I had seen this book several times on iBooks and I had to give it a try.  When I read the description when it mentioned ancient mythology and that immediately caught my attention.

Summary:
Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about him. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life

My Thoughts:
This was a really good story.  My main interest was initially because of the runes; it was an interesting concept to read about Norse Runes since they originate from the Vikings.  Each rune represented something when they were drawn on your skin like when Torin healed Raine in the story he used a specific Norse rune to make sure she wasn’t hurt.  During the story there was a love triangle between Raine, Eirik, her boyfriend, and Torin, her new neighbor that lives in Eirik’s old house.  Even though you didn’t know who Raine was going to end up with until the end, it was kind of obvious who she really liked halfway through the story.  One thing that I loved was how the author created her characters; she gave you enough information to determine each character’s personality, and who they really were, including Raine.  Raine was the kind of girl that is very independent, strong, and sometimes gets easily embarrassed but I think it fit her personality in the story.

Torin was one of those guys in the story that makes a girl swoon.  He’s charming, he does get under Raine’s skin and irritates her, but that doesn’t stop that spark that they have.  He is one of those characters that will do anything for the good of everyone and the girl that he likes.  Another thing that I found funny was the comments that Eirik and Cora made.  They were snarky comments, even though some of them were towards each other, but I thought it was a good change by not making all of the characters in the book like each other.  This was a really good book.  Once you pick it up, you won’t be able to put it down.
