Just a Few Inches by Tara St. Pierre - Book Review

Just a Few Inches Book Cover
How's it going everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing Just a Few Inches by Tara St. Pierre.  I got this book from the author herself when she responded to my survey.  She was the first person who used my survey and I was extremely excited.  I didn’t know that I would be getting a book to review so fast, since I had barely just set the survey up.  A big thank you to her since she was the first person to reply to my survey and for giving me a copy of the book.  Let’s begin with my review!

About the Book:
Title: Just a Few Inches

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
All Carrie Roberts wants is to be a little bit smaller.

To fit into the perfect dress for the Valentine’s Day Dance. To look beautiful for her boyfriend, the school’s star basketball player. To keep his jealous ex-girlfriend, a rival cheerleader, away from him. And to be noticed by her classmates.

Exercising and dieting don’t work, but an advertisement for weight loss pills promises a quicker solution to her problem. As time runs out, she takes more than the recommended dose until she’s just a few inches slimmer. Heads turn when she arrives at the dance, and the wonderful night with her boyfriend is beyond what she dreamed it would be.

Days later, Carrie discovers that her body is changing in ways that should be impossible. While her doctor searches for a cure, she desperately turns to her friends and family for support. Everyone is noticing her now whether she likes it or not, and even the media is intrigued by her incredible story. Getting everything she once wanted has created new problems—problems that are growing more terrifying every day.

Because Carrie Roberts is shrinking.

My Thoughts:

Disclaimer:  I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was an amazing book.  It was a fresh new idea taking on something completely different than many of the Young Adult books released today.  It also takes on a new perspective of body image.  Body image is an extremely big topic because many girls worry about their weight, size, and height, especially when they’re young and in high school.  For me, I believed this story has hidden message.  I think it’s to not let someone else’s size matter from your own, as long as you’re happy and healthy with who you are, that’s all that matters.  You don’t need to change yourself to make others happy.

This story kept me wanting to know what was going to happen every time I turned the virtual page.  One thing I liked was how the author used her weight and height as the first chapter, then decreased it as time went on.  It showed the progression of how tall Carrie was, which gave the reader the idea about how tall she was, without her actually having to say her accurate height in each chapter.  Throughout the entire story, I felt terrible about Carrie’s shrinking height.  Going from 5’8 to the height that she shrank to would be absolutely terrifying in real life.

I really like how the author talks about how daughters in the story, no matter how old they are or if they’re big and all grown up, that they are always their parent’s little girl or girls.  I think it’s something that every parent experiences, knowing that their child is growing up or grown up, they always want to help and protect their kids in any way they possibly can.  This was a 10/10 story I couldn’t put it down, this was an amazing book hands down and I can’t wait to see what else the author has in store for future books.
