To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo - Book Review

To Kill a Kingdom Book Cover
How’s it going everyone. Today, I’ll be reviewing To Kill a Kingdom by Alexandra Christo.  Back in late December, there ended up being a few eBook sales and I couldn't resist not  getting a few of the ones on sale.  I've heard some really great things about this book and I knew I needed to put this book on my TBR ASAP.  I finally got around to reading it in April.

About the Book:
Title: To Kill a Kingdom
Author: Alexandra Christo
Release Date: March 6, 2018
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 320

My Rating:  4.5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Princess Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. With the hearts of seventeen princes in her collection, she is revered across the sea. Until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. To punish her daughter, the Sea Queen transforms Lira into the one thing they loathe most--a human. Robbed of her song, Lira has until the winter solstice to deliver Prince Elian’s heart to the Sea Queen and or remain a human forever.

The ocean is the only place Prince Elian calls home, even though he is heir to the most powerful kingdom in the world. Hunting sirens is more than an unsavory hobby--it’s his calling. When he rescues a drowning woman in the ocean, she’s more than what she appears. She promises to help him find the key to destroying all of sirenkind for good--But can he trust her? And just how many deals will Elian have to barter to eliminate mankind’s greatest enemy?

My Thoughts:
This was a really good book.  I was extremely interested in reading the story when I heard it was a dark fantasy retelling of the little mermaid.  I really like the pace of the story, it held my attention and I wanted to know what happened next.  In this story, you read from two different perspectives, Lira and Elian.  I will admit, I really wish that the book would tell you which character you were reading from in this story since the characters do change perspective.  During one of the early chapters, I thought I was reading from Lira's POW, when in fact it was Elian's POV.  This kind of left me confused until I realized that the book had more than one POV.

Lira was a very devious character and she was really enjoyable to read from.  She was thinking of all of these ways to trick Elian into trusting her so she could steal his heart, but not everything turned out the way she had originally expected it too.  Elian was a very cocky and charming character.  There were always two sides to him, one that was his role as prince and his other side that was the siren hunter and pirate captain because he never felt more at home than on his ship sailing across the ocean.  I'll be honest, I felt the chemistry between Lira and Elian was a little dry.  They had the snarky attitudes towards each other, but I couldn't really see their romantic interest in each other.  Overall, this was a pretty enjoyable book!
