Nothing But Sky by Amy Trueblood - Book Review

Nothing But Sky Book Cover
How’s it going everyone. Today, I’ll be reviewing Nothing But Sky by Amy Trueblood.  An author I follow, Abigail Johnson, retweeted the author of the book that said that this book was on sale and I immediately went to go and check it out.  To say the least, after hitting page 9 (ebook format) I quickly bought the book because I was super intrigued and wanted to know the entire story.

About the Book:

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Grace Lafferty only feels alive when she's dangling 500 feet above ground. As a post-World War I wing walker, Grace is determined to get to the World Aviation Expo, proving her team’s worth against flashier competitors and earning a coveted Hollywood contract.

No one’s ever questioned Grace’s ambition until Henry Patton, a mechanic with plenty of scars from the battlefield, joins her barnstorming team. With each new death-defying trick, Henry pushes Grace to consider her reasons for being a daredevil. Annoyed with Henry’s constant interference, and her growing attraction to him, Grace continues to test the powers of the sky.

After one of her risky maneuvers saves a pilot’s life, a Hollywood studio offers Grace a chance to perform at the Expo. She jumps at the opportunity to secure her future. But when a stunt goes wrong, Grace must decide whether Henry, and her life, are worth risking for one final trick.

My Thoughts:
This is probably one of the hardest reviews that I've written this year because I absolutely loved this book and I think everyone should read it! I love the characters, the plot, the time era, and everything else this book has to offer. Grace was an amazing character.  She's a strong, independent girl, and was determined to do anything she set her mind to no, matter what anyone else said. She's also a barnstormer (in other terms a daredevil), who would perform aerobatic tricks on Jenny planes, which were old military trainer planes from World War I for others entertainment (You can look up these tricks on YouTube, they're cool, but scary at the same time!).  Her group, The Soaring Eagles, would travel all around the United States performing at fairs to make a living.  One of their main goals was to save up enough money to enter the 1922 World Aviation Exposition.  This was Grace's dream of getting a Hollywood contract to secure her and her teams future in the business.  Personally, this kind of a job as a barnstormer seemed absolutely terrifying, but Grace loved every minute of it, it was her life and you could tell how much she loved and lived for being in the air.

Henry was another great character, even with his scars from World War I, he was still a sweet, kind, and caring guy who wanted nothing but the best for The Soaring Eagles and especially Grace. I loved the connection that Henry and Grace had, they went from enemies other to slowly growing closer, being friends to something more. They had a slow burn romance, with both of them unsure of what they felt for each other, and I thought it was perfect.  Uncle Warren was a great guy, he was like a father figure to Grace and you could see how he only wanted what was best for Grace.  Her other teammates, Daniel and Nathan, were great characters as well, you could see how they cared for Grace like she was their little sister and how The Soaring Eagles were all one big happy family.  This was an action-packed story that I couldn't put down. If you need a good book to read whether you're in a reading slump or are in search for an amazing books, then I definitely suggest reading Nothing But Sky.  I'm excited and looking forward to more work from this author in the future!
