The Summer We Believed by Shel Delisle - Book Review

The Summer We Believed Book Cover
How’s it going everyone.  Today, I’ll be reviewing The Summer We Believed by Shel Delisle.  I had seen this book during the summer of 2017 and I had gotten it, along with a few other books, but because of my reading slump, a lot of books ended up getting put on the back burner until I could shake myself of until my winter break.  I did push reading this story off several times after I had tried to read it, but back in February, I decided to finish it because I was almost done with it.

Summary:
Melody and Duncan are best friends who spend every summer vacationing at their families’ lake houses in the Northwoods of Minnesota. Their plan for this summer is to have as much fun in the sun as they can before they head off for their first year of college at the U in the fall.

Everything changes when Duncan’s father announces he’s been promoted and the family will be moving to Florida. Secretly, both Mel and Duncan are harboring feelings for each other, but both are holding back. With only one week before the life-long friends are separated by two thousand miles, can the budding romance find a way to blossom?

My Thoughts:
This was an cute short story about summer love and teen friendships.  One of the things that I liked about this story was the character dialogue, it flowed really well.  The story was told from two different perspectives, Melody and Duncan.  Melody was a sweet and nice girl, but sometimes she was a little to easily swayed when it came to telling Duncan her feelings, but I think that's because she was afraid of Duncan turning her down.  Duncan was also a sweet character and he really cared for Melody.  The one thing that I did notice was how the story would focus on the characters relationship and how they felt about each other, then all of the sudden they would take a 180 and change the topic.  The story did feel like it repeated itself when Melody and Duncan would think about their feelings for each other and how they wanted to do all of these things, but they would just pretend that everything was fine and that nothing had changed.  The seven days that these characters spent today together was filled with an adventure that may seem small, but it was something that was memorable that they wouldn't forget.  I know this book probably wasn't for me, but I would recommend this book series for a younger young adult audience who like to read about sweet teen romance stories.
