Summary:
For Livi Howard, high school sucked. Orchestra Geek, Choir
Monkey, The Ginger … and the labels didn’t end there. But high school is behind
her now, and fabulous university life is ahead. Let Project ‘Ditch the Nerd’
begin!
Adam Anderson is a nerd and proud of it. His university
plans include computer studies, Xbox marathons, and reruns of his favourite
sci-fi TV shows. Watching his best friend Livi transform herself into a person
he barely recognises was never on the list.
With Project ‘Ditch the Nerd’ a success, Livi thinks she
finally has it all—except for the part where she’s growing further and further
away from Adam. When a party goes south, Livi is forced to reconsider the
lengths she’ll go to be accepted by the ‘right’ people. How far is too far? And
will she ever be able to find her way back to herself—and to the guy who’s been
in front of her all along?
My Thoughts:
I loved reading this story.
I had been in a book slump for a while, trying to find a story that
would make me smile, laugh, and have butterflies that would fly around in my
stomach while reading. Not only did this
book start to pull me out of my reading slump, this book had it all. This story, which is different from the very
first book, follows Sarah’s best friend, Livi, as she tries to find herself as
she goes off to college. Livi is the
kind of girl that wants to fit in and be in the popular crowd, as she tried to
discover what she really wants in her life.
Adam, whose Livi’s and Sarah’s best friend, is the geek who likes Livi,
but he won’t say anything because he doesn’t want to ruin their friendship. Livi and Adam have this relationship that I
think makes everyone want to have a best friend who knows you inside and out,
know what your thinking, someone you feel comfortable with, and someone who
will always be there for you.
There was a lot of emotion put into the story and there were
times I would go through the emotions with Livi. One thing I thought was clever was how the
author let Livi use email as a diary, even though it backfired on her. I
thought it was a cleaver way to make Livi have a different version of dear
diary before she sent the thoughts away to never think about them again. I couldn’t put this story down. The
Trouble with Flirting is a story that will put a smile on your face and you
won’t want to put it down.
