Balancing School & Reading~ My Bookish Thoughts #3

Hello everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely day. Today, I thought it would be fun to talk about how to balance school and reading. Obviously, a lot of us may be in school, whether it's high school or college, and we're all trying to find a balance between the two. Most of the time, homework might get in the way of reading (and blogging if you're a blogger), in addition to lots of other stuff that happens in our lives. This puts anything we enjoy doing on the back burner. Sometimes it feels like it's impossible to be able to balance our time between responsibilities, having fun, and relaxing. For this post, I thought it would be a good idea to share some tips/ideas about how to balance these two factors with each other and possibly help you during your school life!

1.   eBooks and Audiobooks Are Your Best Friends
I've said this a few times before and I will say it again: eBooks and Audiobooks are literally your best friend! If you're someone who is constantly on the go, eBooks and audiobooks are an easy solution when you might have a spare minute to read. eBooks are easy to carry around and you can have your own personal library in your pocket. You also have several books to choose from (especially if you've already finish the previous book you were reading). Audiobooks are great too. They’re similar to eBooks (being easily available from your phone or tablet), but you can multitask while listening to a story. For example, you can do homework or drive to class while listening to an audiobook.

2.  Reading Breaks
If only there were more than 24 hours in a day, then maybe our reading issues would be solved! However, we can’t add anymore hours into the day, but we can schedule breaks in between what we are doing. Whether you're working on homework, between classes, or just before bed, you can try to fit reading into your busy schedule (if possible). You can set aside some time throughout the day to read, whether it's a single chapter, reading for 15-30 minutes or an hour depending on your preference, you can still have time to read. It just might be at as slower pace than what you might be used too.

3.  Smaller Reading Goals
Every year, everyone sets a reading goal and if you're a student you are always reading. However its more or less textbooks, instead of books that you want to count towards your goal. So if you like to read lots of books throughout the entire year, consider lowering your reading goal if you know in advance that your schedule is going to be busier than normal. (I’ve already had to change my goal from 40 books to 30 because of time). This may help relieve the stress of trying to read so many books throughout the year and may prevent reading slumps.

4.  Don't Pressure Yourself to Read
As surprising as this tip/idea may seem, sometimes there isn't time for reading and that's okay! There are times in our life when we might not have the free time to read so don't put pressure on yourself to try and read when you can't. Just because someone else is reading a ton of books doesn't mean you should too. Read however much you want, whenever you want. This can also help prevent future reading slumps because you aren't forcing yourself to read when you might want to do something else with your time or you lack the energy to pick up a book and read.

Thank you all so much for reading!  If you have a busy schedule and have a hard time fitting in reading into your schedule, how do you find time to read?  Is there another suggestion that you think could help others?  I would love to know what you think!  Until next time!

  1. I have definitely found that sometimes there isn't time for reading, especially after starting college. Sometimes all my other activities take up too much time, and school does come first! I always read more during the summer though. Thanks for sharing. :) I'm a new follower. I love your blog design!!
