The Trouble with Spells by Lacey Weatherford - Book Review

The Trouble with Spells Book Cover
How's it going everyone!  Today, I’ll be reviewing The Trouble with Spells by Lacey Weatherford.  I had read her previous book Crush, which will appear later on my blog, and as many of you know I love witchcraft.  When I got this book, I got the free version of the first book, just to see if I would like to read the rest of the series because this was the start of me becoming a bookaholic.  Then when I was decided to get the next book in the series, I ended up getting the collectors pack on iTunes instead; this included books 1-5 in the series, the Book of Shadows: Fire & Ice, and a sneak peek of the squeal to this series called Coven which was already released at the time I bought this pack.  I'm so glad I got this when I did because its no longer available in the iBooks store.  Anyways, lets get continue with my review.

About the Book:

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Portia Mullins never dreamed of grandeur, unless that grandeur came in the form of the school's reclusive hottie, Vance Mangum. She had no idea her feelings were reciprocated until her entire life is turned upside down when her family reveals that she's actually a witch, and their coven has been tasked to protect the ever-elusive Vance from his evil warlock father. Thrown into the middle of Vance's life only strengthens Portia's feelings for him, and before long the two of them are caught up in a whirlwind romance as Vance teaches Portia about her strong, yet budding, powers. However, the two get so caught up in each other they completely fail to see the threat right in front of them, until it is too late. As magic releases mayhem, Portia is left with her love hanging in the balance as she desperately tries to save Vance from the fate they always feared.

My Thoughts:
Being a fan of Lacey Weatherford’s work, I loved this story.  Several times I was just smiling because Vance is one of those guys that many girls wished were real and guy characters like Vance are most likely to be swooned over.  The chemistry between Portia and Vance was all real and natural, like a couple of love struck teens with magical abilities.  The characters have chemistry very early on in the story and were extremely serious about each other from the very beginning.  With Vance’s personality, I think it played out really well just because of his dark and shady past that he is so desperate to forget and leave behind.  He was so determined to protect Portia that he went to extreme lengths to try and keep these dark secrets hidden away forever.  The written scenery in this story was really good and I could imagine everything very well.  Just like one of my previous review Grasping at Eternity, this book also takes place in my home state of Arizona so that was an added bonus too which made it easier to envision.  I really suggest this story for people who like romance books, which is more contemporary romance than YA romance, even though the characters are teenagers.
