A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas - Book Review

A Court of Thorns and Roses Book Cover
Hello everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas.  This has been a book that I've debated on reading for a long time now.  I've heard both good and bad about the book and just about everything when it comes to this book series.  This is the first Sarah J. Maas book that I've read, I know shocker, but I decided to jump right into this book and see what all of the hype was about and whether or not it was worth it, and let me just say the hype was right.

Summary:
When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin--one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it... or doom Tamlin--and his world--forever.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed reading this story.  It's not necessarily my favorite in this series, but a good read nonetheless.  In the beginning, the writing style was completely new to me so it took a little bit to get into.  In addition, the  beginning pace of the book is slow for several chapters, which almost made me put this book down.  However, for some reason, I decided to keep going and I'm glad that I did.  Once the story starts to pick up the pace, it was really enjoyable.   I loved the environment this story took place in, it was built really well and it was interesting to see how everything in Prythian was shaped based on certain locations.

I really liked Feyre, she a smart, tough, and strong headed character who did anything and everything to provide for her family, even though they had a terrible relationship in the beginning.  She was written really well and you can see how she grew throughout the entire story.  Tamlin...  I'm going to admit that for his character, I'm a little bit biased.  He's sweet, charming, and headstrong and at first I liked him.  Now here's where my opinion is biased, Tamlin's romantic relationship with Feyre isn't the one that I was rooting for (I've already read and finished book two and saw other online spoilers through fan art, which is why I'm think this way.  But honestly can you blame me?).  Lucien was a really great friend to Feyre in the beginning and a very good supporting character.  Now for the character that I really want to talk about, Rhysand.  He's an an incredibly irritating and very swoon-worthy character.  You can see his true personality slip through the crack while reading, compared to his "mask" that everyone Under the Mountain normally sees.  Rhysand and Feyre have a strong dislike for each other and their deal that they made Under the Mountain made me curious.

By the way, you may or may not have seen that I said this book's age is New Adult.  That is because some of the romantic scenes in this book are for mature audiences, not teens, based on the details provided in the story.  Overall, it was a great fantasy story that I was enthralled with until the end.  I can't wait to finish this series!

Thank you all so much for reading.  I hope you enjoyed my review/suggestion. Until next time!
