If I Fix You by Abigail Johnson - Book Review

If I Fix You Book Cover
How’s it going everyone! Today, I’ll be reviewing If I Fix You by Abigail Johnson.  I've been following the author on twitter for some time now and I've been eager to pick up one of her books.  It wasn't until January when I was able to pick up this book and sink my teeth into it.  Without giving too much away, this was one big roller coster of a story.

About the Book:
Title: If I Fix You
Author: Abigail Johnson
Release Date: October 25, 2016
Genre: Coming of Age
Pages: 336

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Some things are easy to fix… but are some meant to stay broken?

When sixteen-year-old Jill Whitaker's mom walks out—with a sticky note as a goodbye—only Jill knows the real reason she's gone. But how can she tell her father? Jill can hardly believe the truth herself.

Suddenly, the girl who likes to fix things—cars, relationships, romances, people—is all broken up. It used to be, her best friend, tall, blond and hot flirt Sean Addison, could make her smile in seconds. But not anymore. They don't even talk.

With nothing making sense, Jill tries to pick up the pieces of her life. When a new guy moves in next door, intense, seriously cute, but with scars—on the inside and out—that he thinks don't show, Jill finds herself trying to make things better for Daniel. But over one long, hot Arizona summer, she realizes she can't fix anyone's life until she fixes her own. And she knows just where to start…

My Thoughts:
There’s so much I want to say about this story, but all that comes to mind is wow. There were so many emotions that you feel and go through while you read this story. Obviously, I love that this story took place in Arizona. Coming from a fellow Arizona local like myself, it’s nice to read books located in my home state that’s described perfectly. I really liked Jill, she had a very complex kind of character that grew throughout the story after everything that happened to her. At first, she was isolating herself from her problems and trying to ignore them for so long because she didn’t want to talk about them until Daniel came around. Daniel was a very mysterious character. I felt sorry for him because he was frustrated with his current situation and didn’t know what to do with his current problem. Then when Jill and Daniel meet, they had a connection between the two of them that you could tell immediately. Even though their age difference made things between them slightly weird, they were able to connect with each other because they were both “broken” in a sense. Jill was someone who wanted to fix other’s problems, trying to ignore her own, but she only realized that the one problem that she needed to fix, solve, and understand later on in the story was her own. I really liked Sean, even though there was a misunderstanding that Jill had with him. I was really rooting for them because they’ve been friends for so long. I wanted them to make amends with each other and try to ignore the mistakes of the past that weren’t Sean’s fault. I loved the relationship Jill had with her father, even with all of their family chaos turned their world upside down, they both had just as close as a connection even after the shocking news that Jill learned. Overall, this is a heartfelt story that I definitely recommend reading.
