Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry - Book Review

Echoes Between Us Book Cover
Hello friends! Today, I’ll be reviewing Echoes Between Us by Katie McGarry. Back in April, I thought it would be good to switch up the genres that I was reading and decided to pick up this book on a whim, especially since the premise of the main character seeing ghosts definitely intrigued me.

About the Book:
Title: Echoes Between Us
Author: Katie McGarry
Release Date: January 14, 2020
Genre: Romance
Pages: 382

My Rating: 5/5 ⭐️

Summary:
Veronica sees ghosts—more specifically, her mother’s ghost, thanks to the blinding migraines that consume her whole life and keep Veronica on the fringes. But the haunting afterimages make her wonder if there is something more going on...

Golden boy Sawyer is handsome and popular, a state champion swimmer, but this All-American is hiding an adrenaline addiction that could kill him. Drawn to each other after a chance meeting, can they help each other battle the demons that haunt their every step or will they push their luck too far and risk losing it all... including their lives?

My Thoughts:
This book had so many emotions, it's hard to know where to start first.  This story was an adventure filled with love and loss, support from friends and family, and knowing that everything will be alright in the end. You read from two perspectives in this story, Veronica and Sawyer. In the beginning, both of them were going through some terrible things that had negatively affected their lives. After meeting each other, they were able to give each other the support they needed to get through life's difficult challenges together. Besides living in the same supposedly "haunted" house, on different levels, Veronica and Sawyer decided to partner up with each other on their school project based all around ghosts, which ultimately brought them closer together. I really enjoyed the pace of the story. It wasn't too fast or slow and the story flowed very well. Once I picked up the book, I was easily hooked until the very end. However, when I first picked up this book, I expected a light read, but I was taken for a ride when it came to some of the heavier topics found throughout the book.

I loved the character development in this story. With all of the ups and downs each Veronica and Sawyer faced, this story was a journey for both of them. Veronica is a very unique girl. She wasn't afraid to be herself and live by her own set of rules. She's gone through so much, especially when it comes to her tumor and seeing the ghost of her late mother. After loosing her mother to the same brain tumor, Veronica was broken. She was determined to not let it try and control her life, however, it might have had more of an influence on her life than she ever realized. For Sawyer, he had two different sides to him when he was first introduced. On the outside, he's the popular guy with a ton of friend and he's a champion swimmer. On the inside, he has a darker outlook on life and in order to feed his adrenaline addiction, he jumps from dangerous cliffs. They come from two very different worlds and I loved how their differences brought them together. I enjoyed seeing how Veronica and Sawyer's relationship went from them being enemies based on their high school status and how it changed, blooming into something more. They were able to take their weird friendship that they had developed and were able to turn to each other for comfort when things got tough. Overall, if you haven't already, this is definitely a book worth picking up.
